Green Teens

My daughter Ruby goes to a fairly progressive public school in midtown, Beacon High School, where the kids study environmental issues, are required to do community service and have clubs about sustainability. A student started a Facebook page called, “Beacon School Bartering Community” where students (400 of them, 1/3 of the school) trade clothing they no longer wear. “She got da goods,” “It’s tight but not like, skin tight,” “I can meet to trade very beginning of school, first floor bathroom, ok?” “Are they skinny or boot or what?” and “It’s greyish purple. like my hair” are some of the comments posted among the trendy Forever 21, Abercrombie and Urban Outfitters clothes. It’s been a huge success; what teenager wouldn’t like to have some new items of clothing in their wardrobe, for free? I hope other schools do the same thing as it’s a great way to recycle clothing!

Wear Vintage! Vintage Is Green!™

Welcome to the Vintage is Green™ blog!

Sustainability is something we’re all concerned about. Wearing vintage clothing is an excellent way of helping to preserve our planet without sacrificing style or sophistication. I’ll be blogging here about vintage clothing, posting news stories about manufacturing new clothing and its effect on the environment, and discussing anything else that supports the “Vintage Is Green™” movement.

…and check out Chelsea-Girl.com  to shop for fabulous vintage!
